And now for the FRINGE...

this just in from vic

Tether - Blind Running Play

Hope you are well.

I'm producing a new play written by Royal Court Young Writer Isley Lynn that tells the story of blind marathon runner Becky and her guide Mark (called Tether). The play will be performed daily 06 - 30 August 2015 (not 17) at Underbelly, Cowgate as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

You can find out more about the play / purchase tickets here: http://www.underbellyedinburgh.co.uk/whats-on/tether

We also have a trailer: tinyurl.com/natxcl2
And I've attached our poster.

It's a fantastic play and we've had some brilliant support from individuals including Paralympians Robert Matthews, Noel Thatcher and Nick Gleeson, as well as British Blind Sport and the British Paralympic Association.

As a running club, I was hoping some of your members might be interested in coming to watch the production? If you can help spread the word, it would be amazing!

Many thanks in advance,

Vic

LP run Sunday 23rd August

for those of us old enough to know what an lp was,  edinburghrunningnetwork bring you the 6th annual lp run;heres what has happened in the past;
you can book into the future event now!
https://www.entrycentral.com/LPRun

http://www.edinburghrunningnetwork.org.uk/events/ern-lp-run/

The Event

On the crack of the starting pistol everyone began running as many Revolutions Per Minute (laps) of the track as they could during 33 and a third minutes, all the while listening to top tunes from the 1960s, 70s and 80s. The music soundtrack had been selected by runners as part of the entry form and most people will have heard a snippet or more of their favourite running track.

Barry the Gun gets the event underway
At a new bigger and better venue this year, the event began at 11am sharp at Meadowbank Stadium, site of many a Commonwealth Games athletics record having been set. Barry the Gun fired the starting pistol and the clock started its countdown from 33 minutes and 20 seconds towards zero. Runners on the outer track (outer lanes 5-8) ran as fast as they could to try to overtake those running on the inner track (lanes 1-4) and people were passing and being passed throughout the event. To help keep track of the number of revolutions, runners collected an elastic band each time they passed the starting point.

good luck to all those involved in the EMF weekend, & for those not involved, think about this

Hello from Cancer Research UK,

As I’m sure you’re aware, the Edinburgh Marathon Festival is nearly upon us, and our runners need some support!

This is a message for all of you guys not competing at the Edinburgh Marathon Festival, whether you are a friend or family member of someone who is, or an injured runner, or just a running enthusiast… we want you to cheer with us!

Many of you will already be attending the event to show your support for the city and its runners. While you’re there why not join our elite cheering squad. You’ll still be able to support anyone you like, the only difference is that you’ll be in a prime location and will be armed with some of the most formidable cheering equipment imaginable. Most importantly, you’d be helping us to eliminate a horrible disease by allowing our runners to achieve their goals and bring in as much money as possible to go towards life-saving research. We’ll have great cheering points along the route, and complimentary refreshments and t-shirts for all who join us.

Since the 1970s cancer survival rates have doubled. Our aim within the next 20 years is to reach a 3 in 4 survival rate. In order to make these enormous strides against cancer we rely on incredible people like you who give up their time to allow cancer sufferers to spend more time with their family and friends.

If you are interested in joining the team, you can contact us at sportsvolunteer@cancer.org.uk to receive a brief with all of the information you’ll need as a volunteer on the day.
