Xmas night out-pre meal meeting

We are planning to meet for a drink before the meal in Joseph Pearce's Bar

which is a fine old establishment at the corner of Elm Row and Montgomery Street
(just off the top end of Leith Walk) at 7:00 pm and all are welcome. i have reserved an area
[under the name of fiona i expect]& was going to organise an urn or 2 of mulled wine.
can anyone up for mulled wine let me [fiona] know so i don't have to drink it all myself!

Pomegranate is within a couple of hundred metres so we'll not have far to go. If you can't manage for a drink,
the Arabian Nights Room at Pomegranate is  downstairs, to the left of the main entrance, and you
don't need to go into the restaurant itself. One last thing, villeneuve wines in broughton street is
round the corner from Pomegranate if you've forgotten to  get your tipple for the evening.
also - let colin know asap if you are veggie- ta

Looking forward to a great night and seeing you  on this friday
 the 29th.

AWAYDAY Saturday 5th October at 0930.

Hi everyone, as we are now in the midst of Autumn its time we took the Saturday run out of the city again!.  This time the plan is to run through South Queensferry (from the sea front) to Hopetoun House, round the back of the estate to Abercorn and back to  where we started.

The date will be Saturday 5th October at 0930.

For Fiona's beginner groups, there is a shorter run to Hopetoun House gate and back (still a really picturesque run) approx. 3.5 - 4 miles.

If possible can joggers car share to get out to South Queensferry.

The Railway Bridge café is just opposite the car park and has outside seating for anyone who wants to stay for a coffee and cake after.

A further email with directions and hopefully a map of the route, however there will be enough jog leaders there to keep everyone on track.

For this run all proceeds from the usual Saturday run will be donated to Alzheimers Scotland.

Attached is a map Brendan has sent to indicate parking, will send a route of the map nearer the time.
http://gb.mapometer.com/running/route_3661444.html  (zoom out to see where the car park is indicated, there may be a cruise ship visit on the day, if thats the case the parking is more restricted, but there will be ample parking on Hawes Brae - just next to Hawes inn).

Also if I've missed anyone off the email list apologies, but please forward on to anyone you think might be interested.

If you are able to come, if you can let me, Brendan or Fi know that would be helpful just to have an idea of numbers.

Looking forward to seeing you all there.

sunday yoga for runners

This is a beginners/intermediate class particularly suitable for running and endurance sports. It aims to help runners to run more comfortably, safely and maybe even improve their PBs. . By focusing on breath exercises it encourages expanding lung capacity, breath control and tuning-in to the bodies' oxygen needs. Focusing on the breath can calm and clear the mind , a key part of a runners strategy, when things get tough. The class also focuses on core strength and stability, to improve stride effectiveness and reduces the risk of injury. Distance runners' legs experience long periods of repetitive short strides, and this can get hard wired into muscle memory causing stiffness and reduced range when not running. The class focuses on hamstring and thigh stretches, knee stability as well as strengthening and increasing flexibility of the feet, flexibility particularly legs, hips and back. The class also builds heat to help increase stamina and aid flexibility and offers effective supportive cross training.

>What: Vinyasa flow Yoga
When: From 8th September 2013
Where: 10a Broughton Street Lane.
(Gathering Essence)
Time: 12:15 - 1:15 pm.
Other: Yoga mats will be available.

Suitable for beginners and intermediate level.

This just in from colin sheal

Dear Running Friends
I’m doing my 9th Great North Run on Sunday 15th September, however this will be the first time in all of the many races I've entered over the years that I will be running for charity.
I'm running to support The Brain Tumour Charity and in memory of a good running friend whom I met at the Great North Run race many years ago who sadly died from this disease last November.
I’d be truly grateful for anything you can give towards this great cause.  If you wish to sponsor me, please donate through the website below and remember to tick the Gift Aid box if you are lucky enough to pay tax!
Also, it would be wonderful if you would forward the link to anyone you know who may like to donate money to this cause.
Many thanks
Colin Sheal

fionas saturday groups for saturday 11th may

hi all, no jogscotlandbeginners & intermediates at westwoods next week due to being away & all other options being busy-
so i suggest as a way of keeping your hand in-pop along to the parkrun, go for a 5k jog/run/run-walk & see what your baseline is.
make sure you register before you go & remember your barcode.
if you want to go along & take part but don't want to get all sweaty-they're always looking for volunteers. also you will not be last- as there is a back runner to ensure no-one goes of course.
the beginners can do either the 3x10 min jog & 3 min recovery walk if you want to use it as a build on today,
have fun & don't start off too fast & let me know how you get on,

Four events. Two Days. One Big Weekend.

Four events. Two Days. One Big Weekend.

Scotland is set to host a one of a kind running event this summer in four of its big cities.

Entries are now open for jogscotland One Big Weekend a series of  5k timed runs which will be held over the weekend of Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th August 2013 in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Perth. jogscotlandOne Big Weekend is the national coming together of the jogscotland community - a chance for existing members from across the country to meet up, and for non-members to give it a try.

Over the weekend of August 3rd and 4th 2013, thousands of jogscotland runners, friends and family are expected to gather for the summer’s “must-do” running event in picturesque settings in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Perth. Anyone can take part in the weekend, not just jogscotland members. However by becoming a jogscotlandmember during the entry process, customers will enjoy a discounted entry as well as gaining all the benefits ofjogscotland’s bronze membership for free.

Neil Kilgour, One Big Weekend Race Director, said: “We’re delighted to be working alongside jogscotland to host this new and exciting event in Scotland. One Big Weekend is open to all levels of running ability, offering fitness and fun over one weekend of running.”

“These are so much more than your usual 5k runs - for a start they’re chip timed giving jogscotland members and other runners the chance to work towards a goal and set a personal best. We hope these events will be loved by runners who want to make it an exciting addition to the Scottish running calendar.” Neil added

“We can’t wait to welcome everyone to One Big Weekend. We’ll have two days of really enjoyable, friendly events where people from all over the country can come together and celebrate their love of walking, jogging and running.

“We’re looking forward to seeing lots of jogscotland members, their family and friends – and to welcoming plenty of people who are coming along to find out about jogscotland for the first time. Just like our jog groups, the events will be friendly and supportive, and perfect for people of all abilities.” commented Billy Mitchell, Head of jogscotland
