saturday running

Hi Happy Runners,
Almost the end of the running year and only a couple of Westwoods runs remain before the break.
The last Saturday run is this coming Saturday morning (19th) and is a perfect way to set yourselves up for the festive season ahead - burn those calories before loading up with christmas carbs.

Its a £3 "pay as you go" session (no need to book) and Brendans group leaves from Westwoods at 9.30am, we'll be out for about an hour - all abilities welcome.
Fionas early group start as usual at 9.15- for an hour too!
If you're unable to join us on 19th then don't despair! 1st January is the renowned "Portie Promathon" 4 miler, starting at the Seafield Cat and Dog Home 11.30am - blow away the old year cobwebs and set yourself up for a cracking new year ahead. More info at http://www.scottishathletics.org.uk/index.php?p=80&itemType=fixtures&itemId=11608
If you're joining us for this one it's advisable to get there for registration by 11am - now, that's not too bad. Its a busy run but caters for all abilities. Brendan's usually at the back having a party! Bring warm clothing.
Thanks for the great support we've had at Westwoods this year looking forward to even greater achievements and fun in 2010.
See you out there at some point soon,
Brendan and Fiona
PS. Apologies if you've received this message more than once.

new year resolution 2010??

The Bupa Great Winter Run is a 5k running event and the perfect way to start the year for every runner as it takes place on Saturday 9th January in Holyrood Park , Edinburgh .

The senior event is open to all ages and abilities of 14 years and over and we also hold a Bupa Junior Great Winter Run on the same day over a distance of approximately 2.5km to encourage youngsters of ages 7-13 years to get fit too.

Bupa Great Edinburgh International X Country
After the Great Winter Run has finished there should be a cracking atmosphere at the Bupa Great Edinburgh International Cross Country, an annual event held on the same day as the Winter Run, again in Holyrood Park , that attracts the world's best middle distance runners – and it's free to watch the action.

The event will be televised live on BBC One 1pm - 2.30pm.

Alex's adventures in Auckland

alex finished her southern hemisphere half in 2 hours 24 on a hilly course-that was this weekend-1st nov,Well done.
but how about this for a fundraiser....being on the plinth in london for an hour!
i'm sure alex would love anyone to donate on her justgiving site.[alex dickson]
pictures coming soon i hope.

jedburgh 10k

a small posse of westwoods joggers popped down to jedburgh for a challenging 10k,all did very well.
Gillian ,Brendan,Norrie & Joyce took part.
[along with a number of others]
gillian said:The Jedburgh 10km was a different experience from Saturday's 5km park run. A race on a much larger scale. Having done the halfie there quite often I decided to give the 10k a go for a change. Nobody had told me thay kept all the hilly bits from the halfie in the 10k course and removed the long flat straights. Between that and the wind I found it one tough race. Good value for a £10. And although I was puffing to much to appreciate it I'm told it was a very scenic course. Watch time was 57.50 which will do me fine on a day and course like that

well done to all at the jogscotland awards 2009

especially to Irene McDonald-but

good work to Brendan coming 2nd.

run for burma 5k in inverleith park

At least 17 joggers turned out from westwoods jogscotland groups & had a lovely run around their home training grounds. Some unwelcome ups made the course more harder work than it first looks, but better than last saturdays race around arthur seat. However ,everyone finished & congratulations to Isobel & Paula who have now completed their first 5k & also their jogscotland intermediate1 courses .
