South Queensferry Run, Saturday 10th December 2016 1000hrs.

Hi Everyone,

South Queensferry Run, Saturday 10th December 2016 1000hrs.

As winter and dare I say it Christmas is fast approaching I thought it would be a good time to have another South Queensferry run (memory run for Alzheimer's).  This time the other side of South Queensferry through Dalmeny Estate.

Colin and I have looked at a run of approximately 8 miles
(there will be shorter versions for those who wish a slightly shorter route).
Then after the run to meet for coffee & Bacon rolls/cake at a local cafe.

We pretty well have the route sorted, Brendan is working on shorter routes so just a little fine tuning now.

If you are interested could you let either Colin or I know so we have an idea of how many of you are coming so we can put helpers in place if required to keep us on the right tracks and also for catering purposes.

As always the run will be £3.00 with all proceeds going to Alzheimers Scotland.

When we have an idea of numbers I will email out further instructions.  There will be ample parking but would be good if there is a possibility of lift sharing.

We look forward to seeing you there.

the 7th annual LP run

Like running? Like good tunes? Like eating cake?

If you said yes to any of these, then the good news is the ERN LP RUN is back for our 7th year!  At 11am on Sunday 21st August at Meadowbank Stadium and this year in aid of Its Good 2 Give, a charity supporting local young people with cancer and their families.  The theme for this year's race is "High School": the summer holidays are over, the kids are back at school, so come along and enjoy the experience of running on a track, no matter how fast or slow you are!
The run is based on the oldest race in Houston, Texas now in its 49th year.  For the ipod generation here is a short explanation.  On the crack of the starting pistol you run as many Revolutions Per Minute (laps) of the track as you can during 33 and a third minutes, all the while listening to top tunes. Entrants are responsible for counting their own laps but bands will be given out for each lap completed and there will be independent verification of the front runners and prizes for the top male and female finishers, as well as spot prizes.
You also have the option to choose a tune you'd like to hear played as you're running, and to tie in with the High School theme, we're asking you to pick a tune that reminds you of your school days!

After the race is done and dusted, arguably the best bit - tea, coffee and cake!  Edinburgh Running Network members love their cake, and we have a lot of great bakers, so join in and bring along a cake - there will be a mystery prize for the best cake, but all cakes and traybakes will be welcome, it doesn't have to be perfect, just tasty!
ERN is one of the friendliest running clubs in Scotland and we welcome runners of all abilities. Come along and find out just how much we love to run, and eat cake.

2016 LP run T-shirts are available to pre-order with your entry - this year the colour is magenta.
Please note that music requests & T-shirt orders are only available with Early-Bird sign-up, which ends on 4th July 2016.
sign up here;

now sold out! but if you are young enough.....

*New for 2016* entries are open to 16-17 year olds, providing they are accompanied by an adult who is also running the race.  Please submit details of the junior runner when registering the adult.

The ERN LP Run is a Scottish Athletics Permit Event held under UK Athletics Rules.

NEW BEGINNERS
GROUP 1:
There have been a few new beginners on a Monday at 7pm at Leith Victoria, so if you know of anyone that is a beginner and would like to start jogging please let them know. I will try and get numbers up by officially starting a new beginners group at 7pm on 4th April. That gives me time to get the word out and it gives people time to think about it. But new people are welcome to come along straight away.
GROUP 2: The Meadows, Tuesdays 7pm. Yes I know Jane is currently up to 30 mins in this slot but we will be working on running form and starting at the beginning again before we head out to do our usual 30 mins, so this would be an ideal time to come along and get started again, or to let people know that there is a new beginners jogging group starting up. Just come along and get started till the end of April. After that we'll concentrate our efforts on who is in the group and no more complete beginners will be accepted in this slot.

winton trail run april 9th, cheap, cheerful & a medal you can eat

Formally the Pencaitland Fun Run, the event is now into its 6th year and offers a unique opportunity to run off road through some of East Lothian's most beautiful countryside and the estate of Winton House.

This year we are delighted to be able to support the work of Marie Curie Cancer Care as well as local registered charities, the Pencaitland Primary School PTA and Pencaitland Playgroup, with the funds raised.

There are clearly marked and marshalled off road routes for everyone to enjoy with hot & cold refreshments available throughout the afternoon. A new addition of a heated marquee in a prime location to see the finish line should enable runners and spectators to enjoy the event... whatever the weather!

We hope very much you will join us this year in what we hope will be a thoroughly enjoyable event!

Many thanks,

Janis Ward

women run strong- Edinburgh & also Dunkeld

This is the women only run happening on the 6th of march in Edinburgh..
not many spaces left- who fancies coming along- fizz at the finish...

Hi,

I just wanted to let you know that entries are open for Women Run Strong - Dunkeld. I know you enjoyed it last year so I'd love if you could join us on Sunday 15th of May 2016.

We'll be at the Hilton again, taking the beautiful trail through Atholl Woods. Then back to the hotel and the marquee for bubbly, jelly babies, new surpise giveaways, spot prizes. As usual you can book lunch or use of the pool and spa.

I am delighted that there are already lots of sign ups, though I only opened it this week. There are only 200 places so if you want to be there best to sign up today: www.womenrunstrong.com

Finally, you might also be considering running at our Edinburgh event on 6th March. It's getting full now and places are strictly limited so please do sign up if you want to be part of Edinburgh's first women's trail run. The route is stunning, so surprising to find this landscape in the city, be warned though the 10km is tough!

If you like social media you might like to keep up the running motivation by joining the Women Run Strong-members private FB group. We talk about all things running, as well as the odd book reivew! Just click on the link and ask to join, I would be delighted to welcome you there.

Hope to see you soon.

All the best,

Avril

jogscotland membership surge.

jogscotland Membership Surges

jogscotlandA record 365 people have signed up to join jogscotland since the beginning of 2016. The surge in membership is a regular occurrence in January thanks to the number of of New Year’s resolutions being made.
Head of jogscotland Billy Mitchell is delighted with the news: “It’s fantastic to see so many new members joining jogscotland this year. We’re already hearing from people who have taken part in their first ever jog session and come away buzzing with excitement as they realise they can achieve something they thought was going to be difficult or daunting.

“There’s no time like the present – if you’ve ever thought that you might like to jog one day, why not take the first step and join us now? Before you know it, you’ll be healthier and happier - not just for 2016, but for life.”

jogscotland has more than 500 groups across the country, catering for all abilities including complete beginners. Those who have never run before start together, building up at a pace that suits them, with the guidance of a qualified Jog Leader. jogscotland states that: “Nobody is too slow for jogscotland and nobody gets left behind.”

For more information visit the jogscotland website.
