rudolph run brought to you by edinburghrunningnetwork

"You are invited to the inaugural ERN Rudolph Run on Sunday 23rd December. Meeting at Glenogle Swim Centre at 1000, the run is approximately 7 miles long and takes in the Stockbridge Colonies, the Water of Leith walkway, Roseburn Cycle Track, Orchard Bank, Fettes and back round by the Botanics (with all eyes peeled for the Botanics' tallest decorated Christmas tree). There's also a shorter 3 mile run if you'd prefer or if you want to make a mince pie/festive booze preemptive strike, feel free to run the route twice or there is a 13 miler for any dedicated D33 folks.

Dress will be on a Christmas theme; Santa, Elves, Rudolph (you know the score) so look out the tinsel, antlers and Santa hats. Jen says it's compulsory so no shirking unless you have a medically certified Christmas allergy! There will be prizes for the best dressed helper.

We'll adjourn afterwards to a local hostelry for a post run dram/coffee/pint, all welcome. Remember that facilities are available at Glenogle if you want to bring stuff to shower/change post-run."

running tour of edinburgh [FREE]

Hi,

We are getting in touch to ask if you could pass on some information about the first ever running tour in Edinburgh to your JogScotland group (or anyone else you think may be interested). The tours are FREE to everyone for a limited period between now and 5th September 2012.

Our tour follows part of the Olympic Torch route whilst taking in some of Edinburgh historic sights – some obvious and some not so obvious. The Staying Alive Running Club’s ethos of using running to socialise means it will be manageable for all running abilities.

We think this is an ideal opportunity for JogScotland members to come along for a social run and do something a bit different during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Here’s some of the key features of our running tour:

  • It’s completely free to everyone,
  • It’s just 3 miles long with 16 stops so it will cater for all levels of ability to run, walk and talk!
  • Starts at the Commonwealth Pool and finishes at the Grassmarket,
  • Lasts around 1 hour 30 mins,
  • There will be the option of having a social drink with your fellow tour runners afterwards,
  • We guarantee you will learn things about Edinburgh you never knew so it caters for both locals and non-locals,
  • You can leave a small bag of personal belongings at the start and they’ll be transported to the finish for you – this is free too!

There will be 8 free running tours during the festival – the dates are:

·             Sundays: 12th, 19th, 26th August & 2nd September @ 11.00am
·             Wednesdays: 15th, 22nd & 29th August & 5th September at 7.00pm

Remember every tour is FREE and it’s easy to book your place on our tours:

adult runners breakfast habits...

We [the university of roehampton-rather than me & brendan!!] are launching a new questionnaire study designed to investigate the breakfast habits of adult runners.  The study is carried out by the Health Sciences Research Centre at Roehampton University (London), under the leadership of Dr Sue Reeves, and by the Centre for Health & Wellbeing Research Centre at University of Northampton, under the leadership of Professor Jorg Huber.
The questionnaire will take around 15 minutes to complete although this may vary slightly.  The questionnaire can be found online at the following web address:
Hopefully your participation will help provide a better understanding of the role of breakfast in physical activity that will be of benefit to all runners.  In addition we offer you the opportunity to take part in a prize draw for a chance to win one of four £25 M&S vouchers.
Thank you for your interest, if you would like further information please do not hesitate to contact me.

postrunbrunch fundraiser news

this just in from Susie;
When I added all up monies and calculated the Gift Aid, the final total was £757.  Isn’t that fantastic?  What a great bunch of people we are…and modest too!

Once again, many thanks to everyone who came along and made it a lovely social Saturday and to those who made donations but didn’t manage to come along.  As Nesh said “It was funny seeing people with their clothes on!”  We may have to do it again as Stuart brought along a case of beer which wasn’t touched!

Great run this morning Brendan, especially given my alcohol levels from last night’s birthday dinner……..serious training for Aberfeldy starts now!

Like running? Like good tunes? Like eating cake?

If you said yes to any of these, then the good news is the ERN LP RUN and cake competition is back!  At 11am on Sunday 19th August at Meadowbank Stadium
For our 3rd year, bigger and better than ever before.
This year in aid of local charity, Cruse Bereavement Care South East Scotland.

The run is based on the oldest race in Houston, Texas now in its 45th year.
For the ipod generation here is a short explanation.
On the crack of the starting pistol you run as many Revolutions Per Minute (laps) of the track as you can during 33 and a third minutes, all the while listening to top tunes from the
 60s, 70s and 80s.
Entrants are responsible for counting their own laps but there will be independent verification of the front runners and prizes for the top male and female finishers, as well as spot prizes.

Edinburgh Running Network (ERN) members love their cake, so bring along an entry to the cake competition too. The cakes will be judged as the race is run and prizes awarded for the Tastiest Cake, the Best Dressed Cake and Best Traybake. Then, after the race in done and dusted, arguably the best bit - tea, coffee and cake!

There are fire-engine red technical T-shirts to order when you enter, and you can also suggest your favourite running track, from the 60s, 70s or 80s, to accompany your run on the day.
enter on entrycentral;
 http://www.entrycentral.com/index.php?raceID=101162

ERN is one of the friendliest running clubs in Scotland. Come along and find out just how much we love to run, and eat cake.

big breakfast-saturday june 2nd

Hi Everyone,
Last month I was shattered to hear the news that one of our Jog Scotland Family members, Lesley Scott, has been diagnosed with Lymphoma.  We met up during the Easter holidays and she had some more news for me – she’s expecting her first baby!  To say that Lesley, Kevin and family have been on a very bumpy emotional rollercoaster ride would be an understatement.  Ironically, Lesley’s stepdad Robert died from  Leukaemia a few years ago and, in 2010, when I said that I wanted to do the Great North Run in aid of Leukaemia Care, Lesley said she would do it with me.  Thank goodness she was there for me at that time (although, in between the laughter and the tears, she did swear a few times in the last mile or two!!!) We raised almost £2500 between us.
When I got over the shock of her latest news, Lesley declared that we would do another run, after she had recovered from her treatment, this time for Leukaemia Research…..not another Great North Run, thank goodness, just a 5 or 10 km.  This got me thinking, and in the wee small hours one night, I came up with a plan to host a ‘Saturday Jog Scotland Family Breakfast’ for any hungry runners who would like to come to my house at 15 Learmonth Terrace,  after our Saturday morning run with Fiona and Brendan, to have a bacon/sausage/egg roll – any combination will be available – as long as you make a donation to the cause.  I’ve spoken to Lesley about it and she’s happy with it.
We’ll leave a box for anonymous donations and since we’ll all have just been paid, we hope that we’ll have a good financial report for you all shortly afterwards.
I know Saturdays are busy days for everyone and you may already have plans but we’ll take your money anyway if you can’t come along but would like to make a donation.

The attached pictures are of Lesley looking great before our group’s first encounter with Arthur’s  Seat (circa 2009) and still looking great afterwards, just a wee bit pinker!  There’s another one of 2 very tired but happy athletes on the way for a rub down after the GNR.

I’m hoping that my Mum and Lesley’s Mum will enrol to become part of the catering corps.  Please let me know if you a) intend coming along and b) your buttie preference so that the catering corps can get an idea of how many rashers to order.

Thanks very much for your support.
