christmas night out 10th december

Dear All

For something slightly different for this year's running Christmas night out, we've teamed up with Edinburgh Running Network who have booked

Heriots Rugby club

for a ceilidh. ERN are a very friendly bunch, many Westwoods Jog Scotland runners are also ERN members so you'll know plenty of people.

Partners are very welcome. The format for the evening will be a 7pm kick off, with a hot and cold buffet served at 8pm. Ceilidh will start at 9pm-Midnight.

Kilts are preferred!!!!

Please email ernsocial@hotmail.com and myself ellymac68@hotmail.com to confirm your attendance and I can collect your £15 per person
Many thanks

speed of light rehearsal

this just in from Libby at jogscotland-anyone fancy it?

We’ve been approached by the organisation NVA who are organising a project called the Speed of Light as part of Scotland ’s official contribution to London 2012 and the Cultural Olympiad. The main event (which involves running around Arthur’s Seat with lights – although I’m sure it’s a lot more technical than that!) will take place next August, however they are holding a rehearsal event this August which they are inviting 100 runners to volunteer to be part of.

It’s a unique opportunity for people who enjoy mass participation events – I know that Alistair will be taking part (I’m on holiday that week so won’t be there unfortunately). It will take place on Tuesday 23 and Thursday 25 August in the evenings and I thought that you might be up for being involved (all runners need to be a good level of fitness and be confident in their own abilities).

If you follow this link then you will find more info – and let me know if you have any questions. http://www.jogscotland.org.uk/news/1686-the-greatest-celebration-of-non-competitive-running

It would be great if you could put forward a team of 10 – 15, sounds v fun and v interesting!

volunteers wanted for 7th august

A request for help at the Scottish Gas 10k (there's a 5k at the same time as well) on 7th August is attached below.

If you're able to help please contact Emma direct
; mailto:emma_laverie@yahoo.co.uk

Emma (07729109585)

This is a lovely, friendly local race &
they’d really appreciate any volunteers to help out in marshalling, with registration or handing out water at the finish.

"All volunteers receive a t-shirt and a buffet lunch after the race. The day would start at 9am for volunteers at the Scottish Gas Building, Waterfront Avenue, Edinburgh," so very local.

Tuesday 26 July 2011

tuesdays & thursdays available for re-registration now

Just to let you know Westwoods are taking bookings for the new block starting next Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays. Please contact reception on 332 5777 if you'd like to join us for the week night sessions or us directly for the weekend.

The suggested target goal for this block is the Jedburgh Running Festival on 30th October. Each week the intermediate and speed, strength, endurance sessions will take you through a programme
Options are 10K or half-marathon and it's one of the best runs I had in 2009 (ask Narelle, Joyce or Gillian Grant) . Great scenery, fine fresh air and wonderful borders atmosphere.
It's only an hour away but if you prefer a 10K on your doorstep, why not try the less exclusive Edinburgh 10K on October the 2nd?

Regular training will greatly help you towards your goal. Check the JOGblog below for details of the 6 Westwoods sessions available each week.

If you want to talk through your running plans feel free to drop Fiona or me a line.
Looking forward to seeing you on a run soon.
Must get off the computer now because Fiona wants to enter the Craggy Island triathlon before all the places are gone! More later folks.
Cheers,
Brendan and Fiona

MUSSELBURGH 10K

Hi Westwoods runners,
The sizzling Saturday running group are setting their sights on a 10K goal in July. Ali has suggested the excellent Musselburgh 10K on Sat 23rd. So if you've wanted to set a goal for the summer but haven't yet got round to it, why not consider this fine, flat run? Full details at foot of e mail.
How about it... Tuesday and Thursday runners?

On the remaining Saturday mornings running up to July 23rd
we will be running approximate 10K routes in the Westwoods area to help prepare for the distance (starting tomorrow at 9.30am with a 10K affording exceptional views over the city).
Links to two levels of training schedules are below (depending on your time available and experience) - if you start either of these schedules towards end of May you'll have the recommended 8 weeks of the plan completed by the day of the 10K. Any questions, please feel free to get in touch.

http://www.halhigdon.com/10ktraining/10knovice.htm

http://www.halhigdon.com/10ktraining/10kinter.htm

Please note - at time of writing the 10K had not opened for entries yet. I'll let you know, or keep an eye out using the link below.
